 Comprehensive eye exams can detect eye diseases and disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachments and macular degeneration, as well as other systemic health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure. 

 According to experts, 80% of learning is visual, which means that if your child is having difficulty seeing clearly, his or her learning can be affected. This also goes for infants who develop and learn about the world around them through their sense of sight. To ensure that your children have the visual resources they need to grow and develop normally, their eyes and vision should be checked by an eye doctor at certain stages of their development. 

 Eye examinations are essential to preserving your vision. We recommend seniors have their eyes examined every year. This allows us to ensure any prescriptions are up to date and to monitor the overall health of your eyes. 

 A contact lens exam will include both a comprehensive eye exam to check your overall eye health, your general vision prescription and a contact lens consultation and measurement to determine the proper lens fit. The fitting session includes insertion and removal of contact lens training; and proper care instructions. A Free Trial pair is included. 

 Both adults and children can benefit from ortho-k, which provides great daytime vision without contacts or glasses. Orthokeratology is a process that uses specially designed GP contact lenses to temporarily reshape the contour of the cornea to reduce myopia (nearsightedness). 

 A scleral lens, also known as a scleral contact lens and ocular surface prostheses is a large contact lens that rests on the sclera and creates a tear-filled vault over the cornea. Scleral lenses are designed to treat a variety of eye conditions, many of which do not respond to other forms of treatment. 

 Delays in treatment during an ocular emergency can result in permanent vision loss.  Optometrists can quickly diagnose, initiate treatment and/or make referrals for a variety of ocular emergencies or injuries. 

 Certain occupations have specific vision requirements for their candidates to meet before they can perform the job-related tasks safely and effectively.  Some tests include the assessment of the candidate’s visual acuity, color vision, peripheral vision and ocular health.

 By taking a digital picture of the back part of your eye, your optometrist can document and monitor any changes to your retina (where light and images hit), the macula (where your central vision is focused) the optic disk (a spot on the retina that holds the optic nerve, which sends information to the brain), and blood vessels.

Your optometrist may recommend retinal imaging if you have any of the following:

• Diabetes
• Macular degeneration
• Glaucoma
• Retinal toxicity from medication use (for example hydroxychloroquine)

 In addition to retinal imaging, your optometrist may recommend testing with an OCT to further evaluate the anatomy of the back part of your eye.  This non-invasive, higher resolution test takes a cross sectional image the retina, macula and optic nerve to allow early detection/diagnosis of eye diseases, thereby preventing sight loss. 

 Your visual field is how wide of an area your eye can see when you focus on a central point. Visual field testing is one way your optometrist measures how much vision you have in either eye, and how much vision loss may have occurred over time due to conditions such as glaucoma, pituitary tumor, or hydroxychloroquine retinal toxicity.
